Bringing Hedgelaying to Midlothian’s Community Gardens

We recently hosted our very first hedgelaying workshop for our Community Garden Network, who are doing amazing work across Midlothian to support native species. It was a brilliant day of hands-on learning, and we’re excited to see this traditional skill shared more widely across the region.

Creations Competition: Re-imagining our Towns

Following our very successful writing competition last year, this year we are broadening the scope for all you artists out there! We are looking for arts, crafts, poetry or other types of creations based on the prompt: Reimagining our towns: What would you like your town to look like in a greener, more sustainable future?

Our response to the draft circular economy strategy

Last week, the Hub submitted our response to the draft Circular Economy Strategy Consultation. This is a welcome strategy, however it is not nearly ambitious enough. Below is our full response to the consultation (including a short version), but first a look at what this all means.

Help us respond to the Climate Change Plan Consultation

At the end of last year, the Scottish Government published a new draft Climate Change Plan, a critical document that will guide and shape Scotland’s path towards reducing emissions. The draft is now out for consultation and we’d love to hear your thoughts to help us draft our network’s response.

Closing the year with gratitude

As the year comes to a close, we’ve found ourselves doing what many of us do at this time of year: slowing down a little and looking back at the year behind us.

Marching for change

Over the past month, we’ve been inspired by thousands of people coming together for change. Current politics are full of division and hate and it’s easy to feel scared and powerless. But marching alongside so many that believe a better world is possible can help us feel connected.

From Local to National Collaboration

Across Midlothian and beyond, we’ve been reminded this month of just how many people in every corner of our communities care deeply about building a better tomorrow. Everywhere we’ve been, from local events to national gatherings, we’ve seen people coming together, sharing ideas, and learning from each other.

The Hub at Vogrie Pogrie

Earlier this month we had a brilliant weekend at Vogrie Pogrie in Vogrie Country Park, where we connected with over 200 people from across Midlothian, and even some visitors from further afield. At the MCAN tent, we explored biodiversity and wildlife-friendly spaces, mapping local green areas and gathering your ideas for how our communities could make these spaces richer for wildlife.
