Over the past month, we’ve been inspired by thousands of people coming together for change. Current politics are full of division and hate and it’s easy to feel scared and powerless. But marching alongside so many that believe a better world is possible can help us feel connected.
At the end of October, a the Scotland Demands Better march in Edinburgh, we joined a huge crowd walking from Holyrood to the Meadows, calling for fairer jobs, housing, and social security. The energy was a mix of hope and anger, showing just how strongly people want a society that leaves no one behind.
Then, last Saturday, we joined the climate march in Glasgow, the biggest since COP26. Marching behind banners reading “a better world is possible,” we felt part of a movement much bigger than ourselves.
Marches aren’t just about raising banners. They’re about meeting people from across environmental and social justice groups, learn about new projects, groups and ideas, and feeling connected to a wider movement. Even with a backdrop of anger or disappointment in politics, these moments remind us that hope is real, and that together we can push for the changes our communities need.
