MidlothianCAN Canopy at Vogrie Pogrie

This past weekend we had an amazing time hosting the Midlothian CAN Canopy at Vogrie Pogrie 2024, full of workshops and activities by some of our members.

Taking place at the Vogrie Vogrie Country Park, Vogrie Pogrie is a community-led festival with a focus on creativity and providing a space for everyone to get involved through workshops, crafts, immersive performance and more.

To kick off the weekend, Forth Rivers Trust joined us with their River Table, to show the dynamic processes of river and how we can use live willow to secure and increase the stability of our riverbanks, while increasing biodiversity.

Penicuik Re-Cycles brought their bike workshop to Vogrie Pogrie to help festival attendees cycle safely.

Dalkeith Arts brought a bit of glamour to our tent with their thrifted hats for participants to upcycle with natural materials, showing us that a circular economy focused on reusing and recycling can be more fashionable than fast fashion.

Film Star Scotland helped us channel our creativity into thinking about creating effective climate videos that tel a story.

Riverfly on the Esk delighted young ones and grown ups alike in exploring the beasties that live in our ponds and teaching us the crucial part they play in a healthy ecosystem.

Besides the activities by our members, we spent the weekend meeting and chatting with people, collecting individual stories and experiences from the people in Midlothian for the Climate Ready South East Scotland‘s climate risk and opportunity assessment. This culminated in a workshop led by our Community Engagement Officers at the Vogrie Pogriversity tent, where we discussed the changes we’ve witnessed to our local climate and how best we can adapt as communities.

We had an amazing time and can’t thank our members enough for taking the time join us and being so passionate about their projects. We look forward to keep working together to engage more and more people around climate, nature and sustainability issues.

As an ending note, we’d like to share with you the wonderful letter we received through Vogrie Pogrie’s pixie post from a very grateful local rodent family.
