Nominations are open for new Steering Group Members!

Midlothian Climate Action Hub is looking for new Steering Group members, who can be voted on by our membership at our Big Blether on the 1st May 2025.

The Hub is overseen by a Steering Group made up of representatives from local community groups and charities. The Steering Group provides strategic direction and advice to guide the Hub’s work.

We are excited to open nominations for new members of the Steering Group. We have 4 open spaces available and would be thrilled to welcome in some new members to support the work of the Midlothian Climate Action Hub.

If you know of someone who you think would be a brilliant addition to the Steering Group, or you would like to nominate yourself to join, please email abi.wardlaw@midlothianclimateaction.org.uk as soon as possible, cc’ing someone from a member organisation who can second the nomination.

Please note that only representatives of member organisations can be nominated for this position.

Role of the Hub Steering Group

The role of the Hub Steering Group is to provide strategic direction and advice to the Hub’s work. The Hub Steering Group are community group volunteers with relevant knowledge, experience and passion to make a positive impact in Midlothian, its communities and environment. Members of the Hub Steering Group will be elected by the MCAN membership having regard to the skills and experience required to deliver on its role.

Expectations of Hub Steering Group Members

Hub Steering Group members are expected to take an active role in the Midlothian Climate Action Hub through:

  • Regular attendance at Hub Steering Group meetings,
  • Attendance and representation at public events when required and available,
  • Participation in the MCAN Hub recruitment process by approving job descriptions and taking part in interview panels when required and available,
  • Participate in Employee Exit interviews when required and available.

Members will respond to email correspondence, share, and disseminate relevant information, learning and good practice with the Hub Staff Team and contribute to decision-making.

Meetings

The Hub Steering Group meet for approximately 1.5 hours every six weeks (excluding any ad hoc meeting required for urgent matters). This frequency will be reviewed after six months with a view to decreasing the frequency of meetings over time. This meeting is predominantly in person, but the aim is to always have a hybrid option available for members who struggle to attend some/all in person.

Based on the availability of current members, meetings are currently scheduled for a Wednesday afternoon, but once new members are appointed, a discussion will be had about the most appropriate day and time for meetings going forward.
