Last month we hosted our second themed gathering, with a focus in increasing biodiversity and natural spaces in Midlothian. The gathering built on the projects identified as priorities at our Members gathering in October, identifying actions and next steps needed, as well as feasibility and impact of each project. Two main projects have been identified as having the higher potential impact.
One of these is the creation of wildlife corridors between and through Midlothian’s towns and villages. One of the main actions identified as a requirement to the project was a mapping of existing corridors and potential places for new ones. The Hub is currently researching how to best make this happen, including contacting relevant stakeholders.
The second is the development of an Outdoor Learning Centre. We have identified several groups with a strong interest in this project, however not all were able to attend. We will be organising a working group and subsequent meeting for everyone interested in developing this project further.
One other action with support from the membership was the writing of a MCAN Manifesto. We will be working on this over the coming months and share it with the membership for comment.
If you’d be interested in joining working groups for either of the projects above, make sure to get in touch at hub@midlothianclimateaction.org.uk.
