We MAEDT Happen

Thank you to everyone that came to our very first Outreach Event and making it such a fantastic day.

The fantastic team at Mayfield and Easthouses Development Trust are no strangers to sustainability and were crucial to the success of this event – though the weather also didn’t hurt! MAEDT offer a range of greener living and community wellbeing activities year-round, so make sure to check their work.

On the day we were delighted to bring together a variety of fun and informative activities for all ages, captured by the talented Olgilvie Design Studio. Each activity contributed towards either a deepening of knowledge and understanding to do with climate change or towards supporting climate action.

Phil from the team MAEDT facilitated the making of bird feeders to help support local native bird life.

1st Rosewell Guides made Seed Bombs to be spread across Midlothian and encourage the growth of wildflowers, which will feed valuable pollinators such as honey bees, bumble bees, butterflies and beetles.

Yvonne from YWLStudios helped people explore their creative side by creating beautiful, nature inspired cyanotype pictures.

Mike, the Bike Mechanic from the Wheelbeing Hub demonstrated bike maintenance and helped everyone who brought their own bikes to fix them, supporting active travel in the local community and helping us be more active and sustainable.

Brian gave an invaluable insight into the science behind climate change with some great practical experiments that made it very accessible to all.

Creating a space for the sharing of ideas and knowledge is one of our aims, and it was great to see different groups connect and learn from each other.

The staff and volunteers kept people fed and watered with hot drinks, soup and bread – using ingredients from the Mayfield Panty – helping to reduce the amount of food waste ending up as landfill. Perfect on this cool but sunny and crisp February day.

Over the next month – Midlothian Climate Action will be working in partnership to hold more fun and informative events in Midlothian. Make sure to join us!
